Lead Facilitator and Creator - Lou Lebentz

Lou Lebentz is the founder, creator, lead trainer and main presenter of The Voyage®  programme.

Lou is a highly respected and well-known global therapist, trauma clinician, speaker and Founder of “Trauma Thrivers” a sought-after resource including a Facebook community and podcast for those in recovery from trauma, addiction and complex PTSD.

Lou worked for over a decade at the Priory Hospital in Roehampton, after coming into addiction and trauma recovery herself. Having worked in the trauma field for well over two decades now, Lou’s mission is to create a trauma-informed world. Starting by educating those within the field and already exposed to working with people with a trauma history. Through her own extensive experience in both rehabs and private practice, Lou has now developed her own programme of trauma-informed training that will equip people with, not just the knowledge but also the practical skills needed to work with people in a trauma-informed way.

“I truly believe that being trauma-informed is becoming an essential skill set when working with clients. Especially those who are displaying any form of addiction, eating disorders or other mental health challenges.” - Lou Lebentz, Lead facilitator and founder of The Voyage®.

Co-Facilitator - Mel Curtis

Melanie Curtis assists Lou in the training. Mel is a Trauma and Addiction Recovery Coach and Trauma-informed yoga and meditation teacher and somatic practitioner. Now in private practice and part of the Trauma Thrivers team, Mel has also spent time with a well-known group of addiction treatment centres where she worked as an outreach and alumni coach.

Through both her personal journey of recovery through trauma and addiction and also her professional journey, Mel has been disheartened by the absence of education around the link between trauma and addiction, eating disorders and mental health and believes it is imperative that those working with people that have any kind of trauma history need to understand the importance of these linkages and have the resources necessary to work in a trauma-informed way.

Only by working together can we create the societal shift needed in how we view trauma in individuals.

‘I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your training. I now have a good solid framework and am thinking about my training and my approach this evening. I feel knowledgeable, solid and mentored.’ - Alexandra Allen

Your journey begins

Monday (Day 1) Introduction. The current mental health crisis and how clinicians, coaches and counsellors need to understand how to work with trauma in a far more trauma-informed way.

Tuesday (Day 2) Phase 1 - “Expand the Mind”. Deliver up-to-date information, understanding and strategies concerning the nervous system, the mind and body connection and seeing mental health presentations through the lens of trauma.

Wednesday (Day 3) Phase 2 - “Befriend the Body”. Recognise how all successful treatment includes integration into the somatic (body) system. Along with interoceptive practices, parts work and letting go of any adapted behaviours that are no longer helpful.

Thursday (Day 4) Phase 3 - “Touch the Soul” Bring in elements of inspiration and imagery to the journey by creating a compelling reason to engage in the “work”. Celebrate successes and focus on the vision to help endure the challenges along the way.

Friday (Day 5) “Putting it all together” How to work with all phases and implement The Voyage® methodology into your practice.  An opportunity to ask questions, reflect on the week’s mini-excursion and discuss what port of call might be next.

Bonus material:

All recordings will be available afterwards and sent via a link to those who sign up.

‘The programme you have put together, underpinned by Trauma Awareness, Polyvagal theory and the IFS approach, appears to tick the boxes by providing a logical and scientifically sound model and I am enjoying reading and researching more about it since the course. I found it also helps in recognising and destigmatising the struggles that many have with "recovery" (healing), particularly around their difficulties (underpinned by fear rooted in past experiences) to engage in group/fellowship work when they leave treatment.

It definitely felt like another one of those defining moments and I'm looking forward to seeing where it leads.’ - Dave Waller
